Equine Art Exhibit
WHAT?
We are pleased to give advance notice of the inaugural (and hopefully thereafter annual) “Equine Art Exhibit” to be held at the Bridgetown Pottery and Gallery. The vision for this event is to promote the work of the OHHAWA, the value of our heritage horses and educate the wider community through the artistic medium.
WHEN?
The exhibit will commence with an official opening in the afternoon of Sunday 24 October 2010 and will run through until 16 November 2010. This time frame has been selected because it runs concurrently with the Blackwood Marathon (which includes a horseback endurance component), the Festival of Country Gardens, Remembrance Day and the Blues at Bridgetown Music Festival. These events collectively bring close to 20,000 people to Bridgetown so we will have several “ready made” marketable groups to cross promote the event.
WHERE?
The Gallery is located on the main street in Bridgetown, south west WA and is in a great location to attract patronage and exposure for the artists AND of course the OHHAWA. We are planning a unique, ticketed fundraiser dinner with a Middle Eastern theme for Saturday evening 30 October. This event will include dinner, wine and entertainment (one of the best belly dancers this state has to offer!). Tickets will be limited so pencil this date in your diary! The official exhibit opening will be free of charge with wine and nibbles provided.
HOW?
From a fund raising perspective the OHHAWA will receive proceeds from the fundraising dinner, art exhibit entry fees and a percentage of the commission on sold artwork. Entry fees will be $10 per entry and all visual mediums are eligible – sculpture; textiles; printing; oil painting; watercolour; print-making; drawings; photography and mixed medium. We will not have an official judging however there will be a “People’s Choice Award” with prize money of $250. Artists will be able to sell artwork, on a commission basis, if they so chose. The commission rate is 40% of the sale price of which 10% will be fundraising for the Association (the balance being payment to the Gallery).
You do NOT have to be a member of the OHHAWA, to enter your artwork. It’s an open exhibition. But entries must follow the equine theme. You may enter pieces that have been exhibited before. At present each person can enter several pieces if they wish – if we get inundated we may have to look at reducing the number of entries per person.
Entry forms will be available in April. Contact the OHHAWA Secretary via wadifarm@bordernet.com.au to confirm your interest or if further info is required.
NOTE: The entry form will detail deadlines for submission of entry forms and payment; delivery and collection of artwork. If an entry is deemed offense or inappropriate the organizers reserve the right to refuse to accept it as an entry. We are looking at organizing a quality exhibition; exciting, educational and innovative.
